Thames Valley Adventure Playground (TVAP), a Taplow-based charity open to children and adults with all types of special need – physical, learning and sensory including those on the Autistic Spectrum – will be celebrating its 35th anniversary in May 2017 and will be holding a fundraising event ‘Lunch By The River’ to mark the occasion at Oakley Court Hotel near Windsor on 28 May.

TVAP, which was started by a group of local people who had been involved in running a local toy library for children with special needs in Cookham, has grown over the years and it’s currently looking to raise funds to enhance its offering to the local community.

The event will be a great opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of socialising on the banks of the Thames. The event will start with a champagne reception and an opportunity to view classic cars including the unique Bristol Zagato, followed by lunch created by award-winning local restaurant Maliks. During the afternoon, there will an auction – with the chance to bid on a bespoke tour of the state apartments of Windsor Castle and have tea with the Constable and Governor – and a silent auction.

Nicky Hutchinson, Donations Manager of TVAP, comments:

‘We’ve been very lucky to have dedicated supporters and volunteers over the years which have enabled us to offer people with special needs the opportunity to explore and learn in a fun, stimulating and supportive environment. We are very excited about the future of the Playground and are keen to be able to enhance and expand our offering to adults and children who enjoy our facilities.’

The Playground is situated on a 2.5 acre site which is leased to it by local firm Summerleaze Limited, local landowners and sand and gravel suppliers in the Thames Valley for a nominal fee.
Jeremy Malkinson, Finance Director of Summerleaze and Treasurer of TVAP, says:

‘We’ve been involved in this great initiative since its early days and we’re delighted to see the Playground growing and offering the opportunity for play to those who, for various reasons are unable to play, explore and have fun like others. We will continue to support its work and would like to encourage more local businesses to come along to the event and support the charity’s work.’

Tables at the event seat 10 and the cost is £70 per head.
