Mineral Extraction New Denham

This thread is a place for people to raise questions with regard to the plans for Denham Quarry.
It was moved over from the old server, so the dates are wrong (messages originally posted in 2005).

Will there be any guarantees
Will there be any guarantees that the site will not be used for domestic landfill after the extraction is completed?
Many thanks for contributing
Many thanks for contributing to this forum I will be as succinct as I can.
The site cannot be used for domestic landfill after the extraction for two main reasons.
Firstly the site is in the flood plain and in an area where dewatering would be ruled out due to effects on local ecology and water tables in the local vicinity, hence we are not dewatering ourselves.
Secondly, although the gravel sits on clay the depth of the clay is only 5m thick, under which sits an artesian aquifer this essentially means that the clay cannot be removed otherwise the artesian aquifer could be ruptured.
In conclusion the site is totally unsuitable as a domestic landfill for geological, hydrogeological and indeed proximity to conurbation reasons and so you could be absolutely certain the site will not be used as a domestic landfill in the future

The New Denham area suffers
The New Denham area suffers from a high risk of subsidence. What measures do you have planned to ensure that the extraction operations do not affect the water table and thus the stability of properties?
The operation does not
The operation does not involve dewatering of the site and so will have no effect on the water table and thus the stability of properties in the immediate vicinity. A report has been carried out by SLR Consultancy on the effects water levels and vibration on houses in the area, their conclusion was that there is no effect on the stability of houses due to the lack of dewatering of the site. Likewise with vibration due to the nature of the activity and the mineral involved the vibration is only local to the site itself and would not be felt beyond the boundaries.
If you would like a copy of this report then please let me have your address and I will forward one on to you.

Many thanks for giving the
Many thanks for giving the "locals" an opportunity to view the proposed works at the above site, on Saturday 3rd. Would it be possible to provide copies of the drawings, the Archaelogical survey report and EIA report which were available for viewing at this presentation as downloadable PDF docs on your website?
The drawings will be
The drawings will be available as downloads when our IT expert comes back from holiday this week. He only managed to get this far before he left for the sun!!
The arch survey and EIA report contain many pages of detail and plans and will be very large documents. I would suggest that to view those it would be better done at your local council offices. I will try to get summaries available for access through this forum.
